You can check for compatibility on the MS website for matters concerning Win7. I have a simple solution for incompatibility issues - I retained my XP-PRO drive (using new SATA drive for Win7 with the XP drive disconnected until after the installation to avoid problems), so at boot time I can swap to boot into that instead. As all programes are installed for XP on a drive, I also installed same again on same drive for Win7 - so all files are compatible whatever OS I decide to use. I use VueScan with my F-2900 (older than your 5400), so I don't know or care whether the Minolta driver works on Windows 7. My problem was getting a driver for my 2930CU SCSI card. I eventually found instructions on the web for hacking a Vista driver for a related card.
Unfortunately, last time someone here asked about how that was done, I found that the link to the SCSI driver I downloaded for that use was no longer valid. I'm praying that the copy I'm running can just be copied from one of my backups if the need arises.
